A fresh concept
Nowadays, the luxury market has seen a decrease which has made new, start-up Swiss watch manufacturers grown in numbers quite rapidly. The good news is that the increasing competition drives brands to produce even more innovative timepieces, further enhancing their creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. However, we can also be faced with a disadvantage in regards to these developments. New brands can succumb to repetitive designs, as they strive to deliver products which have previously attracted buyers. We’ve all witnessed brands revamping old models only to deliver the same overall design.
In this contect, this timepiece from Objest begs to differ. Although the modern, avant-garde design may not be everyone’s cup of tea, nobody can deny that it is strikingly unique. Moreover, the fact that you can adjust every element of the watch according to your preferences (apart from the ETA 2824-2 movement inside the timepiece) adds to its authenticity and creative conception. Apparently, considering all the available combinations, there could be more than 200,000 distinct models that can be created.
The bottom line, Objest is trying to bring something different. This probably stems from the fact that the founder of Objest Studio – Jared Mankelow – has more than 15 years of experience in industrial design. He has previously worked with several different companies before founding Objest Studio in 2014. In cooperation with a group of designers from all over the world, they invest several months into the design of one timepiece. The process covers a complex chain of prototyping, through testing and careful refining. It needs approximately 6 to 8 months to come up with a Objest watch.
Some may find this process odd, as the final output is quite minimalist. Nevertheless, achieving great beauty in an exceedingly clean design can be extremely difficult. This challenge alone requires great skill and mastery on the designer’s part. Deciding which elements to include and which ones to leave out is a thought-provoking process.
Objest Hach Automatic in Gray
When I first looked at the Objest Hach Automatic I was unsure whether it would flatter my particular style. I usually opt for more traditional timepieces, however, upon trying it out on my wrist I was compelled to change my mind this once.
To begin with, this wristwatch is very comfortable to wear. The smooth case is listed as a 42mm case in their collection, however, it feels and looks smaller due to its rounded edges. You don’t see any traditional lugs. The strap is attached to the case through a system that is concealed underneath the case. The crown is designed with machined teeth which allows for an efficient grip.
The Objest Hach Automatic in gray features a black DLC-treated steel case that comes with a matte finish. If you prefer a warm toned watch, there are models available that come with a gold or copper plating. They also showcase a matte finish, staying true to the clean and minimalist design. The most distinctive element is the dial which displays a hatch pattern. It is beautifully designed, however, it is noticeable if you really take a close look at it.
One special element is the date window. Placed on the 9 o’clock position, the standard window comes with a white background. If you prefer a black background, you can easily customize it to suit your preference. Even though the date display takes from the minimalist design, it adds practical value. I would argue that practicality is very important when purchasing a reliable watch, so I support their decision to add a date display.
If you turn the watch over, the caseback shows the ETA 2824-2 movement. Surely, this is nothing extraordinary, however, this well-known movement has proven to be reliable and dependable. Extremely easy to service and guaranteed to deliver a satisfactory performance, we have no complaints on the movement. Moreover, the rotor showcases the Objest brand pattern with a Guilloché finish. There are two options available, either in Ruthenium black or in Rhodium silver.
Objest Hach Automatic is paired with a comfortable and fancy Italian leather band. The watch ensures a 50m water resistance level. The 2-year warranty is also quite beneficial as well. The starting point for the price is around $544 and it can vary according to the adjustments you ask for. Even though the design may not be the best option for those who prefer extravagant outfits, the minimalism is sure to flatter any look.
Final thoughts
The Objest Hach Automatic is an extremely versatile timepiece. Easy to style and clean-looking, this watch is ideal for those who prefer a contemporary look. The rounded edges and the matte finishing give this timepiece the appearance of a polished and clean accessory. Smooth to the touch and very comfortable on the wrist, this watch makes for a perfect everyday timepiece. If you prefer straightforward designs, this watch is sure to satisfy your taste.
